Single Camera Techniques

Unit 20

Unit 20

Single Camera Production:

The single-camera setup, sometimes referred to as the single-camera style of production or the portable one camera, is a technique for producing movies and videos. The single-camera configuration was first created during the rise of classic Hollywood cinema in the 1910s and has since become the industry standard for filmmaking.

Benefits:

Single cameras frequently move during filming with the aid of dollies and tracking tools, giving the finished video a more cinematic air. Single camera rather than multi-camera shooting is nearly always used in movies, dramatic television shows, advertising, and music videos.

Single Camera Production:

Any form of cinematography when more than one camera is utilised to record footage is referred to as multi-camera. The technique, that was originally applied in the Russian historical drama "Defence of Sevastopol," is now more frequently used on live television to let the editor or director switch between cameras as they see fit.

Benefits: There seem to be advantages to using many cameras for your live broadcast. With wider reach and the introduction of intriguing images and a range of angles, you may improve the content and draw spectators to your live stream. In case you missed it, possibility is the crucial word there.

Documentry

A documentry is a single camera production because it provides the audience with a realistic and accurate representation of various facets of life.

Music videos Music videos are also single camera productions because the camera is also only focused on the person who is making the music and the same camera is used to get visuals of the place they are filming at.

Advertisement - Commercial directors use the single camera arrangement because it provides better flexibility and provides the director more control over each picture, even if it may take longer than the multi-camera setup.

Sports Events - Sports events is multi camera production because they need multiple angles and shots for the different participants Instead of relying on a single camera, shot statically from one viewpoint, multicamera filming offers for far more interesting and pleasurable viewing.

Camera Techniques

Framing

Extreme Long shot - A long shot is a viewpoint of a scene in a movie that is taken from a great distance, making people appear as vague shapes. An even further out view is considered to be an extreme long shot. -

Long shot - Is a perspective of a scene that is photographed from a great distance, making people look like hazy outlines. -

Medium Long Shot - A medium long shot, sometimes referred to as a medium full shot, frames a subject from the knees up. Between a standard medium shot and a full shot is a medium full shot. -

Mid Shot - In tv and film, a medium shot also known as a waist shot or a mid-shot—is a style of camera shot that displays the subject from the waist up. By giving the character and their surroundings equal room in the frame, medium shots draw attention to both. -

Medium Close up - An image that frames the subject from just above their head down to approximately midway on their torso is known as a medium close-up photograph (or MCU). The purpose of a medium close-up shot is to keep some of the backdrop while yet allowing you to clearly see the actor's emotions and facial expressions. -

Close up - In movies and on television, a close-up shot is a particular kind of camera shot that gives a scene more emotion. It closely focuses on an actor's face, making their expression the primary subject of the shot.

Big Close up - One particular person in the frame is the focus of a huge close-up, also known as an ECU shot. There should be no other subjects in the frame because the full body and face are visible. This method is frequently applied to depict strong emotion or specifics in an actor's facial expression.

extreme Close up - A subject is extremely closely framed in an extreme close-up shot, frequently to the point where the subject's edges are obscured by the frame. This is frequently used on actors to highlight particular body parts, such as the face or hips, but it can also be used to display just the actor's mouth or even just one eye.

Movments

Tracking (Dollying) - Any shot in which the camera moves physically sideways, forward, or backward through the scene is a tracking shot. Tracking shots track one or more moving subjects for a longer period of time than other shots and immerse the spectator in a specific environment.

ZOOMing.jpg

ZOOMING - When a camera lens' focal length is changed to create the appearance of moving closer to or farther away from the subject, the result is a zoom shot. A zoom lens, which has adjustable focal lengths, is used to take zoom images.

TIlting - The camera is tilted when it is moved vertically, from up to down or from down to up, with its base fixed at a specific location. Similar to panning, this technique usually entails using a tripod to keep the camera still while moving the angle it points at.

Panning - Because the camera move is independent of another moving subject, this kind of shot is referred to as a "pan to" shot. When a detective is investigating a murder scene, for instance, you might show the investigator leaving the room before panning to a particular part of the scene to expose a concealed clue the detective missed.

STEDIACAM - Using a motion picture camera and a stabilising system called a Steadicam, tracking shots can be taken. It isolates the movement of the camera operator, giving the image a smooth, controlled appearance while flawlessly catching the action.

Hand Held - A hand-held shot may be a shot crazy the camera being supported solely by the operator's hands and shoulder. hand-held tricks entails camera shake from the operator's movements. per the hand-held camera definition, the shot depends solely on the operator's body.

OVER THE SHOULDER - An over the shoulder shot, often known as a third-person shot or OTS, is a scene in which the camera is facing one character while standing directly behind another.

POINT OF VIEW - A point-of-view shot, also called a first-person shot, is a shot that portrays the perspective of a person holding a camera, hence the name.

SETTINGS

Focus - In photography, focus refers to the process of adjusting the lens to locate the subject's best possible resolution, sharpness, and contrast. You can achieve this by either utilising manual focus or your camera's autofocus mechanism.

Shutter speed is exactly what it sounds like the speed at which the shutter of the camera closes. A fast shutter speed creates a shorter exposure the amount of light the camera takes in while a slow shutter speed gives the photographer a longer exposure.

Focus Length - The focal length of a lens is an optical characteristic of the lens, without getting into a detailed discussion of physics. It calculates the separation, in millimetres, between the lens' optical centre and the camera's sensor (or film plane). With the camera focused at infinity, it is decided. The focal length of a lens is its name, and you may find this information on the lens's barrel. A 50 mm lens, for instance, has a 50 mm focal length.

Core Assessment

In the Tv drama/Show snowfall S03 E09 the scene starts of with a wide angle shot from 00:08 - 01:31 showing the two characters Franklin Saint and Leon Simmons walking towards the camera where the third character is standing.

The third character (Manboy) wasn't happy to see Leon his facial expressions and body language which was negative clearly showed and what he stated aswell at 01:10 - 01:13.

When they are all standing still and talking the camera switches from wide angle to over the shoulder for about forty five seconds from 00:13 - 01:27 this is to show the tension and anger in the three characters, this also a good way technique. When their conversation is done the camera switches to a two shot showing the stare down between the two characters Leon and Manboy. After that an establishing shot showing the disoriented background from 01:32 - 01:38 which is a good technique because it shows us the environment, they live in. As Leon and Franklin drive off a two shot angle is taken from outside the vehicle recording their conversation, their conversation slowly starts to get heated and camera angle switches to big close up showing both characters Leon and Franklin.

Franklin was shouting at Leon showing he has authority over him which shows Leon as weak and unworthy. They then drive of and the clip ends.

From 01:22 to 01:27 the characters were being tracked the camera technique used is Dollying. From 01:38 to 01:42 a hand held shot was taken from a far of the two friends skating towards the camera. At 01:44 to 01:46 a medium close up was taken while the two friends were trespassing, this is something young people may disobey simply because we are a little stubborn.
